Africa Transformative Mobility Accelerator (ATMA) Program

Africa Transformative Mobility Accelerator (ATMA) Program admitted 8 startups for the 2020/2021 cohort. The priority countries were Kenya and Uganda. Through a competitive process, the program aimed to admit transformative, practical, well researched and possibly tested solutions to urban mobility challenges in African Cities. During the six-month acceleration period, the startups benefited in several ways, including but not limited to: Participated in four startup immersion trips in East Africa (Kenya and Uganda for the 2020/2021 cohort); Received coaching and mentorship from local and international mobility and enterprise development experts; Networked with mobility stakeholders, practitioners and enthusiasts in four separate sessions that were organized in Nairobi and Kampala between November 2020 and March 2021; Attended a series of planned seminars that were facilitated by subject matter experts in relevant topics such as mobility; value proposition design & problem solution fit; business modeling & product/service market fit; customer acquisition; financial modeling and investor relations; Pitched their solutions to a selected and curated pool of investors during the Africa Transformative Mobility Summit on 28th May 2021 in Nairobi, Kenya; and received a grant of up to $25,000 for the top startups during the mobility summit on 28th May 2021.

Actual services provided for Africa Transformative Mobility Accelerator ( ATMA ) program

  • Assessed the value chains of each startup in the Accelerator (ATMA) – also called African Mobility Initiative (AMI).
  • Described their current and future business case, and opportunity.
  • Assessed their financial performance and the financial sustainability, reviewed and recommended improvements to their existing business strategies, and provided a tailored technical recommendation to each startup.
  • Assessed the match and effectiveness of services rendered by the accelerator in response to the needs of the start-ups.
  • Prepared two reports to AMI management for decision-making purposes.
